The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined. Therefore the Lord said: And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? But they have not all obeyed the gospel. In a young Arab Bedouin and his companions were searching for a lost goat in a region about seven miles south of Jericho, near the Dead Sea, when by chance he stumbled across a partially collapsed cave. Inside the cave he found a number of crushed jars containing several old leather scrolls with writing on them.
The boy and his companions did not consider them of value, but nevertheless took the scrolls along with them. Eventually these scrolls ended up at St. Coming punishment and distress upon Israel; future days of triumph through personal intervention by the Prince of Peace For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Judgment pronounced on the whole world; spiritual blindness of nations to be removed And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations. God will redeem and comfort His people; amazing predictions of the suffering and death of Christ centuries before His first coming.
Acceptable and unacceptable forms of worship; God answers the prayer of the people; new heavens and new earth promised. The prophets promised that after terrible national calamities and hardships, the Messiah—Jesus Christ—would come to establish His Kingdom, resulting in peace, prosperity and an abundant life for people around the world.
Part 2B (Isaiah 11-12)
Isaiah issued many warnings to those who stubbornly refused to acknowledge their guilt. Isaiah also sounded further warnings: The moral failure in our nations is evident today. The word gospel as used in the Bible is often misunderstood. It may surprise some readers that the prophet Isaiah preached the gospel message! It is fascinating how terminology found in Isaiah is repeated in certain New Testament scriptures that describe the gospel. The apostle Paul quoted this scripture in Romans This announcement by Paul is one of hope and of peace.

He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. Now notice further how Jesus Christ quoted from Isaiah as proof that He was in harmony with the gospel message preached by the prophet. While on a visit to Nazareth, He entered the local synagogue and was asked to read from the book of Isaiah.
So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:. Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. His first coming was to fulfill scriptures such as the ones He quoted from Isaiah Here are a few selected scriptures in Isaiah relating to our Savior and soon-coming King, Jesus Christ—who is the heart and core of the gospel:.
And in this mountain The Lord of hosts will make for all people A feast of choice pieces, A feast of wines on the lees, Of fat things full of marrow, Of well-refined wines on the lees. And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.
And it will be said in that day: Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, And the fruitful field is counted as a forest. Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, And righteousness remain in the fruitful field. The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places, Though hail comes down on the forest, And the city is brought low in humiliation. Blessed are you who sow beside all waters, Who send out freely the feet of the ox and the donkey. Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.
But after these things he must be released for a little while. Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men; So shall He sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; For what had not been told them they shall see, And what they had not heard they shall consider. God not only offers the incredible free gift of eternal life to those who repent and turn to Him, He also plans to give a reward For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This scripture refers to the reward Jesus Christ will bring with Him at His return to give to those who have endeavored to live a life—both in thoughts and actions—that is pleasing to Him. Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.

Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and there, standing beside the river, was a ram which had two horns, and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward, so that no animal could withstand him; nor was there any that could deliver from his hand, but he did according to his will and became great. This aspect of the vision is a restatement of what had been revealed about the second beast in the previous chapter.
Speaking of this second world-dominating power, Daniel 7: The vision of the second beast in Daniel 7: I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel. And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king. In And as I was considering, suddenly a male goat came from the west, across the surface of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
Then he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing beside the river, and ran at him with furious power. And I saw him confronting the ram; he was moved with rage against him, attacked the ram, and broke his two horns. There was no power in the ram to withstand him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled him; and there was no one that could deliver the ram from his hand.
And the male goat is the kingdom of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes is the first king.

This prophecy of a male goat, which represents the same kingdom as the third beast of Daniel 7, takes an unusual turn in verse 8. Shortly after conquering all lands from Greece to India, Alexander died. His kingdom was divided into four weaker kingdoms 8 Therefore the male goat grew very great; but when he became strong, the large horn was broken, and in place of it four notable ones came up toward the four winds of heaven.
The remainder of the prophecy then focuses on an event that was fulfilled once before the first coming of Jesus Christ and will be repeated on a far greater scale before His second coming, also described in our article on the " Abomination of Desolation.
In And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots.
And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words. Even his choice troops shall have no strength to resist. For ships from Cyprus shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and return in rage against the holy covenant, and do damage.
And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.
Daniel 8: The Vision of a Ram and a Goat
The verses that describe this abomination And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground.
He did all this and prospered. Daniel was praying and seeking the meaning of the vision recorded in Daniel 8 when the angel Gabriel was sent to explain it to him verses Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?

And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
